5 Tips for Back to School Fashion

Back to school season is a time of excitement and opportunity. But it’s also a time where doubts and nerves start to creep in. As students of all ages enter halls and classrooms again this fall, one way their fears can be eased is by making sure they are confident in their appearance.

Today, we’re highlighting five tips for back to school fashion that are sure to give you or your student the fortitude they need to face the first day of school head on.

1. Have an Idea of What You’re Looking for

Before you head to the mall or embark on an epic online shopping spree, get an idea of what you are looking for. A little visual research can go a long way in helping you or your child hone in on the things you need, and avoid feeling overwhelmed by the options.

And, before you head out, it’s always a good idea to take stock of the clothing already in your closet, to see what gaps you may want to fill. Maybe you realize that everything you own is grey or blue, and you’d like to add some brighter colors. Or, you could be feeling good about the selection of tops you have, but are in desperate need of some new jeans.

2. Find Clothes That Reflect Your Personality

Wearing clothes that you love can give you an immense confidence boost. Your clothing is one of the ways you tell the world who you are, so it’s important to find styles that you feel comfortable in and reflect your unique personality.

Everybody loves a good deal, but avoid buying clothing that’s just going to sit in the closet, unworn, just because it was on sale. The more intentional you are with your style and clothing choices, the more self-assured you’ll feel and your outfits will likely see more longevity as well.

3. Don’t Be Afraid to Try Something New

While it’s important to be true to yourself when picking out clothing, back to school is a fantastic opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. Have you seen a fun fashion trend you’d like to try? The new school year is a fresh slate to try out something new. You don’t need to change your look completely, but have some fun by adding a piece to your wardrobe that stands out—like this crisscross tunic.

4. Incorporate Clothes you Already have in your Wardrobe

Just because it’s back to school season, doesn’t mean that you have to break the bank replacing every last outfit you own. Restyling clothing you already have is a great way to give old favorites a fresh look.

By simply wearing an outfit a different way than usual, you can give a piece new life. Adding a belt to a long tunic or dress, wearing a different style/cut of jeans with a blouse, or layering with a cute cardigan are all easy ways to add new flair to an existing wardrobe.

5. Accessorize

Accessories are the finishing piece to the puzzle—the cherry on top of the ice cream sunday you’ve been carefully building with all of your styling efforts. With the right accessory, you can add emphasis in any of the categories mentioned previously. Finish strong with a fun hairband, some chic jewelry, or an on-trend scarf.
