How to Stretch Your Jeans When They Get too Tight
Everyone has that pair of jeans that are a little too snug, but they don’t want to part with. Luckily, all hope is not lost! Utilize any of these three methods, and get those too tight jeans fitting you comfortably again.
Spray Bottle Method
The spray bottle method is the quickest and easiest technique to add a little extra stretch to your jeans, and there are two ways to go about it.
Stretch by Hand
- Spray the waistband (or other area of your jeans you’d like to stretch) with warm water until soaked through.
- Kneel on the jeans, pulling and stretching the areas that you’d like to expand.
- Let the jeans air dry so that the stretch will hold.
Wear and Stretch
- Put on the jeans. (If this is difficult, try laying down while putting them on.)
- Spray the waistband (or other area of your jeans you’d like to stretch) with warm water until soaked through.
- Move, dance, and stretch. Try pulling your legs up to your chest and doing squats in order to stretch out the material.
- Let the jeans air dry so that the stretch will hold.
Ironing Method
Breaking out the iron and ironing board isn’t quite as convenient as using a spray bottle, but the ironing method does have the potential to give your jeans a stretch that lasts a little bit longer.
- Zip/button up the jeans all the way, and stretch them over an ironing board as far as they will go.
- Steam the waistband until soaked through.
- With the iron set to the highest temperature, iron the waistband while continuing to pull and stretch the jeans as you go along. Continue along the entire waistband.
- Repeat until desired level of stretch is reached.
Bathtub Method
While arguably the most uncomfortable of the three approaches, the bathtub method is the best for stretching the material throughout the fit, rather than just the waistband.
- Put on the jeans. (If this is difficult, try laying down while putting them on.)
- Fill a bathtub with warm water, and get in while wearing the jeans. Sit in the water until the pants are soaked through.
- Get out of the tub and dry off. Keep the jeans on, and wear them them for another half hour to an hour while doing some stretching (lunges, squats, etc.).
- Take them off once they are mostly dry, and let them air dry the rest of the way.
